A Fair Economy

Across Canada, millions of people struggling to make ends meet. Fully half of all Canadians are living paycheque to paycheque, and one in four parents have cut back on their own food consumption to ensure their children have enough to eat. The rising costs of staples are straining household budgets, making it virtually impossible for families to save for the future or handle unexpected expenses.

Income inequality in Canada has hit the highest level ever recorded. This growing disparity threatens social cohesion and hinders economic growth by limiting opportunities for a significant portion of the population to fully contribute to our country.

A fair and just economy is the foundation of a prosperous society. Don believes in creating an economy that works for everyone, not just the wealthy few. His plan to build a fair economy includes:

  • Incentivizing the creation of good, family-sustaining jobs.
  • Supporting the small and medium sized businesses that serve our community.
  • Permanently removing the GST from life’s essentials including cell phone, internet and home heating bills, kids’ clothes, car seats and grocery store meals.
  • Putting a cap on the price of grocery essentials.
  • Providing affordable childcare to support working families.
  • Developing a national framework for a universal livable income.
  • Enacting fair labour laws.
  • Making our tax system more progressive.
