For the past 6 years, Canadian trash has been sitting in the Philippines after being illegally dumped there.
In 2013, 103 shipping containers, or 2,500 tons of waste, were mislabelled as recyclable materials and left at a port in the Philippines. Instead, the containers were full of household trash, paper and even used diapers.
We're calling for immediate action to:
- Take back the trash that has been sitting in the Philippines.
- Compensate the Philippines government and issue an apology.
- Stop Canada's practice of dumping trash in developing countries.
- Hold the shippers responsible for this dumping financially accountable.
